Written for Lone Women's 'Lone Women Wood' sound installation at Sanctuary Lab 2021, Sylva 247 is a poetic sonic meditation, reflecting on a bittersweet relationship with the forest.

Informed by dark folk tales old and new, Kat Five’s forest is teeming with life, and weaves together field recordings, percussion, melodica and vocals, to create a spell-binding journey.

With thanks to the Lone Women Wood in Flashes of Wilderness collaborative sound installation project, in the Galloway Forest.

I love the trees they speak to me
Pine or oak they reach to me

I love the leaves shaking in the breeze
The wind as it rushes past my cheek

The crunch the crackle
The twigs the creak

Night time, and my heart rate shoots
Senses then they’re so acute
Don’t know where it’s coming from
Should I blame Red Riding Hood

Primal fears they soon creep in
No place for me when the sun’s setting
Makes me sad but angry too
Why should I fear nature true

But is it nature is it man
What are the tales of wooded land
The poor lost souls found too late
That’s all we hear it's about their fate
